Adventure Summary
A desperate plea draws a party of four to six characters into the endless storm-lashed expanse of the Everfrost Tundra. For three weeks an unnatural blizzard has howled without pause, burying villages and driving fearsome beasts down from the peaks. The quest-giver, Archmage Irina Starweaver, claims the storm is a sign that an ancient white dragon slumbering beneath the ice is about to wake. She begs the heroes to help her reinforce the magical seals that bind the creature. But the storm is not the dragon’s doing—it is Irina’s. She is deliberately fraying the ancient wards to steal the dragon’s life force and transcend mortality. Over four to six sessions, characters will roam frozen ruins, parley with bitter elementals, survive betrayal, and ultimately decide the fate of a legendary beast and the entire tundra. Best suited for levels 5–8, the campaign escalates from local heroics to a clash over the soul of a primordial power.
Background
The Everfrost Tundra sprawls at the roof of the world, a seemingly lifeless plain of windswept snow, shattered glaciers, and buried secrets. Here, magic seeps up through cracks in the ice—a remnant of the primordial war between the Elemental Princes and the mortal races. At the heart of the tundra sleeps Glacialis, an ancient white dragon who once terrorized the north until a circle of druids and storm seers bound him in a slumbering seal centuries ago. The seal was crafted from the dragon’s own hoard-magic and the dying breath of a powerful ice elemental lord, locking Glacialis in eternal dreaming stasis. As long as the seal holds, the dragon’s fury is contained, and the elemental spirits remain docile. But the seal can be twisted; it can channel the dragon’s power to a mortal strong enough to seize it.
One such mortal is Irina Starweaver. Once a respected archmage of the Emerald Academy, she was expelled for delving into forbidden soul-transference rituals. She fled north, obsessed with a single goal: ascending beyond the bonds of flesh by consuming the essence of a creature of absolute elemental purity. In Glacialis she found the perfect target—a being of ancient elemental dragonkind, frozen in perpetual slumber. Irina learned that by corrupting the druidic seal with blood magic, she could create a conduit that would drain the dragon’s vitality into herself, granting her the timelessness of a lich and the raw power of a living blizzard. However, the ritual requires immense magical energy, which is why she began to deliberately weaken the seal, causing the violent storm as a side effect. She set up an observatory near the dragon’s lair and began the laborious process of unweaving the ancient wards.
The unnatural storm provoked panic. Icy horrors, displaced from their territories, stalk the tundra. The small outpost of Icehaven, the only shelter for leagues, is slowly freezing over. The locals, descendants of the druids who once guarded the seal, feel their old wards failing but cannot pinpoint the cause. Into this chaos Irina sent out a call for adventurers, posing as a desperate scholar racing against the storm to “save” the region. The party’s arrival is exactly what she needs: expendable hands to gather the final ritual components while she finishes her preparations. By the time the heroes realize the truth, Irina may already have the power to turn them into ice sculptures—or she may still be vulnerable enough to be stopped.
