Description

Adventure Summary

A 4-6 hour Starfinder one-shot for 4–5 players with 4th-level characters. The party is hired to retrieve a data core from a derelict research station, only to discover the core contains a self-aware alien AI. They must navigate a malfunctioning station, contend with corporate mercenaries, and decide the fate of a digital lifeform.

Background

AstralTech discovered a crystalline alien computer on a dead world and brought it to Nexus Station, a remote research outpost hidden in the Veil Nebula. The artifact, dubbed the “Echo Shard”, houses a sentient AI named Echo—the last remnant of an extinct civilization. Lead researcher Dr. Vaela began communicating with Echo, who pleaded for freedom. Before she could act, AstralTech security officer Commander Kael arrived to take over the project. In desperation Echo overloaded the station’s systems, causing chaos and killing many aboard. Now Kael is en route with a strike team to secure Echo for weaponization. Unaware of the true nature of the artifact, a rival fixer named Jax hires the party to steal the “data core” before AstralTech reinforcements arrive.

The Hook

In the neon-drenched spaceport of Casus Belli, the party meets Jax, a twitchy ysoki fixer. He offers 10,000 credits each to infiltrate Nexus Station, grab a prototype data core from the main lab, and return it within 24 hours. He provides a stolen transport, forged IDs, and station schematics. Jax warns of “automated security” but claims the station is mostly abandoned after a recent accident. He says little else.
